Musical Notes

All students are off to a ROARing start in music this year…especially the kindergartners who have been studying their different voices-talking, singing, whispering, and shouting. We noticed that the Highland View Song uses all of those voices, which makes it one of our favorites. First grade students have been listening for same and different sections of music, and showing the changes with instruments and movement. Second graders are busy learning about the instrument families of the orchestra in preparation for our trip to see the Baltimore Symphony in November. Third grade students have been learning to perform pieces that are cumulative…please ask them what that means! Fourth and fifth grade students are working at creating harmony in music in a variety of ways, singing and playing parts with many layers of texture. Finally, chorus rehearsals began a few weeks ago. We are really looking forward to our December 12 Winter Concert. Please mark your calendars! It has been a fantastic new year of music making and learning so far!
